Excerpt: Imagine if all of a sudden things in space shifted slightly and we discovered another planet that was just like ours. How would we react? What would we do first? Who would be the first ones to travel there? Would we travel there? All these questions and then some make up just part of the wickedly imaginative sci-fi romance ‘Another Earth,’ which is one of several films screening at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival that uses a low budget to blend genres while presenting very relatable relationship stories that are infused with a sci-fi twist. Thankfully, ‘Another Earth’ is one that…

‘Enthiran:’ India’s Most Expensive Movie Looks Like Coolest Action Flick Ever Made
Posted on February 25th, 2011

Looking like everything ever created in the ‘Terminator’ and ‘Matrix’ series, blended with Japanese monster flicks and Michael Bay’s jockstrap is the Tamil sci-fi flick ‘Enthiran.’ The Kollywood blockbuster, which was shot over two years and released last October, is reportedly the most expensive movie in Indian cinema history. One look at the C.G.-drenched clip we posted after the jump will easily explain why.
S. Shankar’s ‘Enthiran’ has everything: cyborgs, car chases, choppers, machine guns, giant cobras … the list of ridiculousness goes>

Excerpt: [The Week in Geek is a weekly Tuesday column that plunges headfirst into a deep pool of genre geekiness without ever coming up for air.]And suddenly, just like that, everyone knows the name Henry Cavill. That’s what happens when you get cast as Superman in a major motion picture (Zack Snyder’s ‘The Man of Steel’). Even Brandon Routh, who never really took advantage of his ‘Superman Returns’ fame, remains well-known, simply because he played Superman once. Christopher Reeve was linked to the superhero to his dying day, with headlines of his untimely demise stumbling over themselves to see who could…

Real-Life Death Ray Built by Teenager; World Fears the Worst
Posted on February 25th, 2011

Using a simple fiberglass satellite dish covered in mirrors, Eric Jacqmain, a 19-year-old from Indiana, created a ray that can vaporize aluminum and melt steel. Yes, the R5800 Solar Death Ray (that is literally what it is called), just 5-foot-9-inches tall and is 42 inches across, has achieved what Archimedes supposedly accomplished using bronze and copper shields.
The video is fascinating. Set to odd electronic music, Jacqmain obliterates a wide variety of objects, even making concrete boil. We can only hope this young, evil genius doesn’t move>

‘Tron: Legacy’ Star Jeff Bridges Offers Master-Class Acting Advice

Excerpt: It’s easy to think that within the confines of a tentpole would-be blockbuster, the actors have little more to do than show up, look good, and hit their marks. But Jeff Bridges seems to approach every role the same way, whether he’s belly-up in a bathtub in ‘The Big Lebowski,’ chasing down damsels in distress in ‘King Kong,’ or returning to a role he played almost 30 years ago to reinvent a plucky computer programmer as a silicon valley hippie in ‘Tron: Legacy.’ And while that approach might seem spectacularly intuitive, especially given his consistently natural presence src=”http://www.blogcdn.com/blog.moviefone.com/media/2010/12/jeffbridges2.jpg” style=”border-style: solid;…

‘TRON: Legacy’ vs. ‘Avatar’: How Do the Two Blockbusters Match Up?
Posted on February 25th, 2011
Archived; click post to view.
Excerpt: When we first started writing about ‘TRON: Legacy,’ people immediately began comparing it to ‘Avatar.’ Both films were years in the making, and both were arriving in theaters hspace=”4″ id=”vimage_3694250″ src=”http://www.blogcdn.com/blog.moviefone.com/media/2010/12/2010tronlegacy002.jpg” vspace=”4″ />The StoryCritics have already attacked ‘TRON: Legacy’ for its weak story, and they’d unfortunately be right. Because Disney obviously wants ‘TRON: Legacy’ to be the standard to which all future ‘Tron’ movies are judged, they’ve packed a ton of exposition into the sequel in order to make it so people don’t actually have to watch the original. That might be good for people who never saw the original…

‘Tron: Legacy’ Director Joe Kosinski on Creating a Computer World

Excerpt: Few filmmakers are aware that they’re making history when they start working> The opening scenes of the movie in the real world have a grid-like, geometric feel. Was there any sort of intentional effort – or you can take credit for it now – to make a visual transition from the first film to the second, or the angularity of the real world to the contours of the computer world?Kosinski: Yeah, definitely. There was this really cool stuff that Steven [Lisberger] did in the first movie where he drew a parallel between the lights of the grid and the lights of…
